Compassionate Support for Your Relationship With Food, Your Body, and Yourself

Struggling with food or body image can take up a lot of space in your life. You may find yourself thinking constantly about what you eat, worrying about your body, avoiding certain foods or situations, or feeling caught between wanting things to change and finding change incredibly difficult.

You don't need to fit a particular diagnosis or look a certain way for your experience to deserve support.

At Four Wings Psychology, we offer therapy for eating disorders and disordered eating in Nepean and virtually across Ontario. Our therapists provide a compassionate, non judgmental space to explore what is happening beneath the surface, understand the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and work toward a healthier relationship with food, your body, and yourself.

Understanding Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating

Eating disorders are complex mental health concerns. They're rarely just about food. They can be connected to anxiety, perfectionism, trauma, identity, self esteem, relationships, a need for control, or difficult emotions that have become hard to manage in other ways.

For some people, concerns meet the criteria for a specific eating disorder. For others, their relationship with food and their body is causing significant distress without fitting neatly into a diagnosis.

Both experiences matter.

Therapy can provide space to understand these patterns with curiosity and compassion rather than shame or judgment.

What We Can Support

Our therapists can support people experiencing concerns such as

• Restrictive eating or rigid rules around food
• Binge eating or feeling out of control around food
• Purging or other compensatory behaviours
• Persistent concerns about weight, shape, or appearance
• Anxiety or guilt related to eating
• Avoidance of certain foods or eating situations
• Difficulties recognizing or responding to hunger and fullness
• Body dissatisfaction or distress
• Perfectionism and self criticism
• Disordered eating alongside anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health concerns

Eating concerns can look different from person to person. You don't have to wait until things feel awful before reaching out for support.

What to Expect in Therapy

Therapy for eating disorders is not about judgment, blame, or simply telling you what to eat. We take time to understand your experiences, the role eating behaviours may be playing in your life, and what you would like to be different.

Depending on your needs and goals, therapy may help you

• Understand patterns involving food, emotions, and body image
• Develop healthier ways of responding to difficult thoughts and feelings
• Explore anxiety, perfectionism, shame, or self criticism
• Build greater awareness of triggers and coping patterns
• Develop a more compassionate relationship with your body
• Strengthen emotional regulation and coping skills
• Explore identity, relationships, and experiences that may be connected to eating concerns
• Work toward greater flexibility and freedom in everyday life

There's no expectation that you come ready to change everything. Therapy meets you where you are, including when part of you wants change and another part feels uncertain about it.

Collaborative Care

Eating disorders can affect both mental and physical health. Depending on your individual needs, psychological support may be one part of a broader care team.

When appropriate and with your consent, your therapist may collaborate with other professionals involved in your care, such as your physician, dietitian, psychiatrist, or other health care providers.

If your needs require a different or more intensive level of care, we will be transparent about that and help you understand what additional support may be appropriate.

Our Approach

At Four Wings Psychology, we recognize that relationships with food and our bodies are influenced by much more than individual choices. Culture, family experiences, trauma, identity, social expectations, and messages about bodies can all play a role.

Our approach is

• Compassionate and non judgmental
• Evidence based and individualized
• Trauma informed and person centered
• LGBTQ2S plus affirming and culturally responsive
• Collaborative and respectful of your autonomy
• Focused on the whole person, not simply eating behaviours

We work to understand your experience in context and tailor therapy to your needs, goals, and readiness.

Why Choose Four Wings Psychology

At Four Wings, we believe therapy should feel genuine, collaborative, and grounded in evidence. You are more than a diagnosis, a behaviour, or a number.

Our therapists bring warmth and clinical expertise to conversations that can sometimes feel difficult to have. We create space to talk honestly about food, body image, control, shame, identity, and whatever else may be part of your experience.

Services are available in person in Nepean and virtually across Ontario.
