Child Welfare Involvement

Support for Families Navigating CPS, Foster Care, and Adoption

Involvement with child welfare services can be stressful, confusing, and emotionally overwhelming. Whether you are working with CPS, navigating foster or kinship care, or moving through an adoption process, you may be facing uncertainty, pressure, and complex emotions.

At Four Wings Psychology, we provide supportive, trauma informed care for children, caregivers, and families involved in child welfare systems in Nepean and across Ontario. Our goal is to create a space where you feel understood, respected, and supported through each step of the process.

Supporting Children and Youth

Children involved in child welfare systems have often experienced disruption, loss, or uncertainty. Therapy can help them feel safer, more regulated, and better able to express their experiences.

We support children and youth in
• Processing transitions, separation, or placement changes
• Building emotional regulation and coping skills
• Strengthening attachment and sense of safety
• Expressing feelings through developmentally appropriate approaches
• Making sense of complex family dynamics

Supporting Caregivers and Families

Caregivers, foster parents, and kinship providers play an essential role, often while navigating their own stress and uncertainty. We provide guidance and support to help you feel more confident and supported in your role.

This may include
• Understanding trauma and its impact on behaviour
• Strengthening attachment and connection
• Navigating system involvement and expectations
• Supporting transitions such as reunification or adoption
• Managing stress, burnout, and emotional demands

Our Approach

Our work is
• Trauma informed and attachment focused
• Grounded in child development and evidence based care
• Respectful of diverse family structures and cultural contexts
• Collaborative with caregivers and systems when appropriate
• Focused on safety, stability, and long term well-being

We understand the complexity of these situations and approach each family with care and sensitivity.

You Do Not Have to Navigate This Alone

Child welfare involvement can feel isolating. Support can help you make sense of what is happening, strengthen relationships, and move forward with greater confidence.

At Four Wings Psychology, we are here to support children and families with compassion, clarity, and respect for your unique circumstances.
