Cognitive Processing Therapy Group for First Responders
A 12-Week Closed Group at Four Wings Psychology
First responders may be exposed to events that continue to affect how they think, feel, and function long after the immediate danger has passed. Four Wings Psychology is offering a Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) group specifically for first responders experiencing symptoms related to trauma or posttraumatic stress.
The group will provide a structured, confidential, and supportive environment where participants can better understand the impact of trauma, examine beliefs that may be keeping them stuck, and develop more balanced and helpful ways of moving forward.
The group will be facilitated by:
Dr. Sarah Bellefontaine, C.Psych.
Dr. Mark Leonhart, C.Psych. (Supervised Practice)
Sarah Jennings, MA, RP (Qualifying) will assist with the group.
What Is Cognitive Processing Therapy?
Cognitive Processing Therapy, commonly referred to as CPT, is an evidence-based treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder.
Following a traumatic experience, people may develop beliefs about themselves, other people, or the world that contribute to ongoing distress. CPT helps participants recognize and evaluate these beliefs while developing new ways of understanding what happened.
The group follows a structured treatment format and includes discussion, skill development, and between-session practice.
Who Is This Group For?
This group is intended for first responders who are experiencing trauma-related concerns and may benefit from participating in a structured, small group treatment program.
Referrals are welcomed from:
- Individuals interested in self-referring
- Psychologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
- Workplace or disability-management professionals
- Community organizations supporting first responders
Before joining the group, each prospective participant will attend an individual pre-group assessment to discuss their needs, learn more about the program, and determine whether the group is an appropriate treatment fit.
Group Format and Schedule
This is a 12-week closed group, meaning the same participants will attend throughout the full program. The group will be capped at 8 participants in order to ensure the comfort of all attending. Regular attendance is important to support treatment progress, continuity, and a sense of safety within the group.

Taking the Next Step
Trauma can affect your sense of safety, trust, control, and connection. Seeking support does not mean that you're weak or that you should have been able to manage on your own.
This group offers first responders an opportunity to work through trauma-related concerns using a focused and well-established treatment approach, alongside others who may understand the unique demands of first-response work.
